In Jonah 4:4, YHWH responds to Jonah’s death wish with a rhetorical question: “Is it good for you to be angry?” The question presumes that Jonah knows the answer is “no.” The verb used for Jonah’s anger is the same as in 4:1 and connotes a burning anger. YHWH chastises Jonah not so much for his bigotry but for the audacity of challenging YHWH’s sense of compassion.
